A TRIBUTE TO AN UNSUNG HERO OF SLQSs…
Ananda Ayya, my first-line manager, played a pivotal role during my tenure as his Assistant on the prestigious Palm Jumeirah project, shaping my career trajectory. His mentorship extended far beyond the professional realm, imparting invaluable life lessons that have profoundly influenced my personal and professional growth. Ayya’s unwavering commitment to integrity and resilience serves as a beacon of inspiration, guiding me through the complexities of the industry.
For Sri Lankan Quantity Surveyors, Ananda Ayya is an unsung hero, tirelessly advocating for their interests behind the scenes without seeking recognition or personal gain. His contributions, notably the initiation of RICS APC classes and training in the UAE back in 2010-2011, have played a pivotal role in nurturing the next generation of professionals. Despite the allure of lucrative opportunities, Ayya’s selflessness and dedication to the community remained steadfast. He never sought fame or benefits, and his modesty speaks volumes.
As my mentor and close friend, I am profoundly grateful for Ananda Ayya’s unwavering support and guidance throughout the years. His retirement marks the culmination of a distinguished career characterized by excellence and service. Yet, his impact will endure long beyond his professional tenure, shaping the future of our industry for generations to come.
As he embarks on this new chapter, may it be filled with the same grace and wisdom that he has so generously shared with us.
Grate service sir
Thanks for your valuable contribution
I initially recognised Ananda as an experienced and talented senior QS at the time him joined with Al Naboodah two decades ago.
He was punctual and always acted with full dignity. He walks the talk.
Still, I can remember his commitment shown during his solid preparation for the APC despite his age. He always attended well prepared for mentoring sessions with me. Without any doubt he was one of the best mentees I have ever met. Subsequently he himself voluntarily took the baton to support the young APC candidates. So, he was the best to guide APC candidates.
Ananda (and Ajantha, Yasas, Udaya, Edward etc.) voluntarily supported us (me & Thilaka) to establish the BTech (QS) course for practicing quantity surveyors as a member of QS Advisory Committee of the University of Vocational Technology which produces high quality quantity surveyors for the local and international labour market.
Specially during his five decades long exemplary professional career in the construction industry he lifted the SLQS brand value and its recognition to an utmost level. Therefore, ASHGAL couldn’t find a suitable Claim Advisor to replace him. He was privileged to extend his service for several years on the request of the top management.
He was an active Mahindian during his stay in the UAE and a join hand with us to establish Mahindians-Qatar in 2011.
He has accomplished his parental duties by raising two sons: well established Claim Consultant in Melbourn and a Physician in Apeksha Hospital.
He was one of my LLM batchmates and also MSc(QS) batchmates of my wife Thilaka too. Ultimately, he became a very close family friend of us. He was like an elder brother and a sincere advisor for us on many occasions.
We wish he will continue sharing his valuable knowledge with budding constructions professionals even during his retirement period.
So, we wish Ananda a healthy and joyful retirement life with his bellowed wife Tharangini!
Hi Ananda,
I wish you all the best
