Motivation is an internal thought process that makes a person move towards certain goals and can’t directly be observed like any other human intrinsic features. Motivation can only be inferred by noting a person’s behaviour and can change a person’s attitude, improve performance and get new ideas to achieve goals and targets. Good communication is an essential tool in achieving productivity and maintaining a strong working relationship at all levels of an organisation in an effective manner. Communication can be done through verbal, non-verbal or written modes.

In the construction industry, negotiation is required from the very outset of the project. Effective communication ends up with better negotiation. Communication can be displayed or demonstrated through verbal, non-verbal and written methods. In most circumstances, Contract negotiation involves some degree of compromise from both sides to reach a win-win agreed situation. Effective communication may lead to better results in negotiations and good negotiation skills will help to conclude contractual matters without escalating to disputed scenarios. This CPD is aimed at to discuss all the above areas in prospective of quantity surveyors best practice.
